As a wedding is a formal occasion the wedding invitations for both the day and evening usually conform to certain etiquette in the wording style.
There are an ever-increasing numbers of different styles of wedding invitations available for your choice, all of which allows you to reflect the style of your wedding.
The Guest List
Arranging the guest list can require careful consideration and planning. For a formal wedding the bride and groom to be, should ask their respective parents to draw up a list of relatives and friends that they would like to invite.
If the wedding is informal, it is now acceptable for the bride and groom to produce their own guest list. Whatever the style of wedding it is advisable beforehand to agree the number of guests for the ceremony and reception and also for the evening reception. The size of your guest list along with your budget will be the governing factor in your choice of venue.
Choosing an RSVP card to match your invitation enables your guest to reply promptly. This will help with confirming your final numbers, as it tends to prompt a more immediate reply, but for those who haven’t responded you would be advised to check with them about 4 weeks before the wedding so you can finalise numbers and inform the caterers. It is worth confirming with the caterers what the last date is to submit the final numbers.
If you are inviting a single person then remember to include an option for them to bring a guest with them by putting the guest after their name on the invitation.
It is also advisable to include a map and directions to both the ceremony and reception. Also include details of accommodation options available for those guests who will be travelling a long distance and need to stay overnight.
If you are having personalized wedding stationery printed then allow enough time for this process and plan to send your invitations to your guests about 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Some people send them out much earlier than this, particularly if they are holding their wedding in the holiday season. This gives your guests the opportunity to book their holidays to avoid your chosen date.
You will need to order the other element of the wedding stationery you require including Orders of Service. These are required if you are having a church wedding but can also be used for blessings of the marriage after a civil ceremony. You will need Place cards, Serviettes, Thank You cards or Bridal Notepaper to thank your guests for their gifts.
